Model Talk with Adam Phillips
“The idea behind our Model Talk series is a simple one. Give male models a voice. Often male models are seen as the accessory in a shoot. So often they wear the clothes or front the campaign but we never get to know them. So why not change that? So over the next few months we will be sitting down and taking the time to get to know some of the top models in the industry and who knows what we all might learn.”
shooting in locations such as New York have been my most memorable experiences.
So for those of us who don’t know you, start by telling us a little about yourself and what you do…
Hi my names Adam, I’m 28 and currently modelling full time. I also have a degree in graphic design with an interest in teaching.
Were you always so good looking or did you grow into your looks?
I wouldn’t say I was always good looking. I was quite a geek as a child, very much resembling Harry Potter! I was definitely the smallest and skinniest for a long time. Very much a late bloomer!
Was modelling something you always wanted to pursue and how did you get started in the industry?
No, before I discovered modelling I had always wanted to get into graphic design and to teach hence my degree. I am quite creative and artistic. Modelling came from an unexpected local competition which resulted in me being scouted by an agency.
You’ve worked with so many amazing photographers, are there any shoots that stand out for you and what made them particularly special to you?
I think shooting in locations such as New York have been my most memorable experiences. As I’m fairly new to international modelling I’m hoping I will expand on this and pick up some more great experiences.
I always get a lot of compliments on my eyes. I feel like the eyes are important when connecting with your audience.
As a model there is obviously times when you have to show off your body, is that something that comes natural to and how do you find that confidence in your own skin?
I think you have to build up that confidence in this industry and over time it does begin to come naturally.
You clearly work hard on your body; and fitness seems to be a big part of your life? Is there anything special you like to do to keep in shape?
Going to the gym is obviously important to me but I do get enjoyment from it too. If I’m honest I don’t do anything special but just try to maintain a healthy balanced lifestyle and do try to make it count when I go to the gym.
What’s your favourite part of your body and what do you find gets the most compliments on shoots?
I always get a lot of compliments on my eyes. I feel like the eyes are important when connecting with your audience. The body then compliments that.
I like to be creative so am always open to trying new and different ideas.
Are there any designers or photographers that you would love to work with and what would be your dream campaign to shoot?
I’m pretty open minded when it comes to photographers. I like to be creative so am always open to trying new and different ideas. For me as probably with any model the dream would be a big brand either fashion or fragrance.
What’s the craziest thing you’ve been asked to do as a model and would you do it again?
Luckily as I’ve only recently started full time modelling I haven’t really been asked to do anything crazy…yet! But I’m sure there will be times in the future and I’ll hope to give the right answer then! Should be interesting!
When you’re not modelling what else do you like to do to keep busy?
Obviously I have a keen interest in keeping fit and going to the gym. I do love to listen to music, I find its really important for me and helps me to escape from stress. I also like to regularly socialise with friends, going out and hitting the dancefloor!
Finally, where would you like to see yourself career wise, and in life, in the next 5 years and what’s coming up from you that we should look out for?
I just hope to see myself happy in whatever I’m doing in 5 years. I think that’s the most important thing. But definitely look out for some more adventures, more traveling and some new and exciting pictures.
